30 Weeks

At last week's appointment I had the dreaded glucose test. But I have to say after reading dozens of blogs that tell you how terrible it is and how much you will hate your life during it, it really wasn't that bad. I had a fruit punch flavored drink instead of the orange flavor that a lot of people talk about which maybe made a difference; I don't know. But it tasted like really sweet juice. They also took it right of the fridge so it was SUPER cold. They make you drink the whole thing in under 5 minutes to basically make sure you jam pack as much sugar in your blood as possible. Then an hour later they take your blood to determine how your body dealt with it. The test is to determine whether or not you have gestational diabetes. My Dr. goes with the "no news is good news" rule. So since I haven't heard from them in over a week I am assuming everything came back fine. I have another appointment a week from now so I'll probably ask then just to make sure :). But all in all it was super easy and not nearly as terrible as I was envisioning.

How far along: 30 weeks
Total weight gain: 24 lbs.
Sleep: Constantly waking up to roll over and stretch out my hips.
Sickness: Nope
Cravings:BREADS! Nice soft, doughy, buttery, breads.
Make me queasy: Yogurt of any kind and too many sweets
General Symptoms: Ever since this pregnancy started I have been having this tingling feeling on my rib cage under my right boob. It has gradually turned into pain, and then into a burning feeling. Like needles being poked into a sunburn. I asked the dr. and apparently like 5% of pregnant women get this and there is no real explanation - oh good. So the only solution I have is ignoring it or when it's really bad putting aloe gel on it to soothe the burning. So if any of you are also experiencing this I am sorry and maybe try some aloe.
Miss anything: SANDWICHES - roast beef, salami, meat in general
Maternity Clothes: Just the same maternity jeans and tops and I still mix in some old stretchy favorites
Movement: Pretty good. After writing the last time that it seemed to have slowed down the baby sensed it and is now moving a lot. It does take some days off but for the majority it moves pretty strong and constant.
Gender Prediction: I go back and forth. I think I'm going to switch to team boy for a while and try to make it even ;)

Names I like at the moment:
Girl: Claire, Olivia, Charlotte (Charlie), Lucy
Boy: Jack, Edward (Ed, Eddie), Nathan (Nate), Neal, Luke

The baby is now the size of an cucumber. Clearly they mean in length and not in weight since the baby now weights about 3lbs. And a 3lb cucumber would definitely win some awards :). The baby is now strong enough to grasp one of our fingers!

Chevron Blanket Tutorial - Crochet

I started crocheting about 4-5 years ago and have been waiting for the day I can start making things for my own baby. And that time has finally come!

I of course started with a blanket as those are the most useful and common. Max and I didn't find out the sex of our baby so I stuck with neutral colors but feel free to use whatever colors you would like.

A few things to note about the pattern below:
  1. I chose 4 colors but feel free to choose as many or as little as you want
  2. I made each color line two rows wide but you can do as many as you want. I would suggest the less colors you have the wider the rows.
  3. Hook size: I-5.5mm
Stitches you will need to know:
  • chain
  • double crochet (dc)
  • double crochet 3 together (dc3tog)
  • joining colors
Let's begin!

  1. With the first color chain 115.
    • If you chain 115 and it doesn't seem large enough either try moving up a hook size or you can increase the blanket size by increasing your chain in increments of 16. This is not an exact science as it's my first time making it so this might involve some trial and error. Good news is you will know if the pattern will work if row 2 works out so you wont waste much time.
  2. Dc in third chain from hook and in the next 6 stitches (7 dc total), dc3tog, dc in next 6 stitches. REPEAT until last stitch: 3 dc in next stitch, dc in next 6 stitches, dc3tog, dc in next 6 stitches. 2 dc in last stitch. Turn.
    • This should make 7 ripples if you chained 115.
  3. Ch 3, dc in first 7 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. REPEAT to last stitch: 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. 2 dc in top of ch-3 changing to the next color in the last dc. Turn.
  4. Ch3, dc in same dc and next 6 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. REPEAT to last stitch: 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. 2 dc in top of ch-3. Turn.
  5. Ch 3, dc in first 7 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. REPEAT to last stitch: 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, dc3tog, dc in next 6 dc. 2 dc in top of ch-3 changing to next color in last dc. Turn.
  6. REPEAT rows 4 and 5 until the blanket reaches your desired length. Fasten off.
Here are few pictures of mine: Don't worry it's not finished yet, it will get bigger :).

28 Weeks

How far along: 28 weeks
Total weight gain: 23 lbs.
Sleep: My hips still hurt and rolling over is almost impossible now.
Sickness: Nope
Cravings: salads (weird because before I was pregnant I hated lettuce) salt, breads
Make me queasy: Yogurt of any kind
General Symptoms: lung crushing and stretching pains.
Miss anything: SANDWICHES
Maternity Clothes: Just the same maternity jeans and tops and I still mix in some old stretchy favorites
Movement: Pretty good. It doesn't seem to be as frequent as it was before (don't fret I already asked the doctor and everything is fine) but they are strong when I do feel them. I guess little baby Wilson is starting to run out of room lol.

The baby is now the size of an eggplant. The baby could now reasonably survive if it was born now because it's lungs are mostly fully formed. It would still need the NICU but it would make it! It's also putting on fat and stretching out that wrinkly skin.

The Suns Game

Last night Max and I got to go to a Phoenix Suns game and it was so much fun! Someone at work got free tickets from a vendor and gave them away so I jumped on the chance. We were in the fancy terrace section. This section had it's own buffet with chef, bar, bathrooms (important for this preggo ;-) ), and super comfy seats. It was a great excuse for a date and everything was totally free!

We were tied with like 15 seconds left but ended up losing at the buzzer. It was a great game though and a nice date night with the hubby.

What a great start to the weekend!

New Look!

Hi All!

As you can clearly see I have changed the look and feel of my blog! I think this look is a bit more fun and less like a 4th grade project. There are still a few kinks to work out so bear with me as I recall my computer coding classes :).

 I hope you like it.

Let me know what you think!

Weekend bbq

This past weekend was very nice and relaxing. I haven't feel like I have had a true weekend off in a while so this weekend was awesome.

Saturday we had my friend from my old job and her family over for dinner. The have graciously given us a boat load of baby stuff and were dropping off the final pieces. So a BBQ dinner for their family was the least we could do. Max woke up early and got the smoker going so we could have some pulled pork sandwich and sausages. Even though I woke up shortly after him because I was so hungry and he was making so much noise it didn't seem to bother me. We spent the nice sunny day watching tv, cleaning, and smoking delicious food.

Honey waiting for everyone to get here!

Having them over was so much fun! We haven't been able to get together for a while just due to holidays and schedules. It was also nice to hang out with their two kids; they have a 4 yr. old daughter and an almost 2 year old son. It was like a small practice run in our house. Finding out the weak points were where they could get into trouble. And not to mention just how cute and adorable they are. I felt weird picking up and snuggling with someone else kid all day but they didn't stop me so I rolled with it. Who can resist kiddos?!

We watched some Disney movies which never bothers me seeing as I have a massive collection going. And the best part was their daughter asked to watch Aladdin (my all time favorite movie) without me even mentioning it to her. I was trying really hard not to quote the movie the whole time but some parts I just can't resist :). Max of course did great with their son, picking him up, letting him eat off his plate, keeping his curious mind and hands away from the smoker and oven.

Sunday was a pretty boring but restful day. Max spent the whole day with him mom helping her edit some work papers so I spent the day watching Netflix, crocheting the baby blanket (check out the tutorial tab soon to see it and a how-to), and eating delicious left overs. Even though by the end of the night I had a massive headache from staring at the tv all day it was worth it to have a couch potato day.

Hope you had a great weekend too!

26 Weeks

HELLO THIRD TRIMESTER!

We are getting so close to meeting our little nugget.

How far along: 26 weeks
Total weight gain: 20 lbs.
Sleep: My hips still hurt and rolling over is almost impossible now.
Sickness: Nope
Cravings: salads (weird because before I was pregnant I hated lettuce) salt, hummus, chips
Make me queasy: Yogurt of any kind
General Symptoms: lung crushing and stretching pains.
Miss anything: Red meat, sandwiches, and seafood
Maternity Clothes: Just the same maternity jeans and tops and I still mix in some old stretchy favorites
Movement: Quite a bit! Sometimes the kicks to the rib cage are not quite as cute. And bladder punches really sting almost like pins. Max has started to really enjoy feeling the baby move in there but doesn't know how to ask. So he always try's to sneak a feel while we're cuddling and I have to tell him it's ok :). He's such a sweetie. A few days ago we were cuddling on the sofa and he had his hand on my belly the whole night and after about 10min he said "It feels like it moves constantly, how do you focus on anything else!".
Gender Prediction: I go back and forth. I think I'm back on train girl. But I can't wait to find out!

Names I like at the moment:
Girl: Claire, Olivia, Alice, Eloise (Ellie), Charlotte (Charlie), Lucy
Boy: Jack, Edward (Ed, Eddie), Milo, Nathan (Nate), Ethan, Neal, Luke,

The baby is now the size of a head of lettuce. Maybe that's why I'm craving it now :). It's eyes are forming and will soon start to open. It's eyelashes are now fully formed and it's taking "breaths" of amniotic fluid in practice for air!
